How do you choose your custom photographer?

Here are a few questions you might want to answer first to make the process easier.

• Who is going to be in the portrait? your immediate family, extended family, just the children? Are there groupings you want taken such as mother and son, just the kids, as well as the entire family?

• Where do you want it taken? Inside the studio, at your home, an outdoor location of your choice?

• Do you want it more posed and formal or journalistic showing how you interact with your family?

• What final products do you want? A large wall portrait, a few gift prints to give, a storyboard depicting a few moments, or a storybook telling about the family and interactions?

Start your search on the internet. First, you need to see who is available to you in your area or as far as you are willing to travel. Then take a look at their web site and see what style they photograph. Make sure they have images similar to what you are looking for as far as posing or location, if you have an idea of what you want. If you don’t know, then look at everyone’s portfolio and see what you like. If you are looking for family portraits in the park, do not choose a photographer that only displays newborn photography in the studio.

I suggest that you talk to a few photographers and see if you like the way they interact with you and your family. Ideally, I would love to meet all of our clients in person before the session to build a relationship and get comfortable. This also allows for us to show off some of the products we offer that you may not even know are available.

Ultimately, you will pick your photographer based on their style, relationship, price, product offering. The hard part is finding someone who meets all of these criteria. So, you will have to prioritize what you want.

Rose + Matt = Clara

Nate and I have known Rose and Matt for years, and they have become great friends. When they told us they were pregnant, we could not be more excited for them! I love baby news and theirs was extra special, because Rose and Matt were told by their doctors that they would not be able to have a child together.
So, they decided to adopt, they went through all the classes and signed up to be foster parents with the hopes to adopt a child of their own. The week they were called to foster a child, Rose found out she was pregnant! God is truly a miracle worker.

Frances & Kevin

Frances is beautiful, sweet and in love. Kevin is kind, very quiet and adores Frances.

The wedding ceremony was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky, OH. The service was performed by Father David Nuss and was a simple and beautiful ceremony.

The reception was held at the Erie County Conservation League, Milan, OH. The evening was filled with tons of laughter, happiness and crazy dancing. Thanks to Bradley Hoffman, One Man Band, for providing the entertainment!

A baby pig was given to the bride and groom as a present! Now, the crazy thing was, I believe, I was the only one at the reception that was surprised by this gift! Actually, Kevin raises pigs and has been a 4H pig judge for years. Frances hired him one year to be a judge and this is how they met and fell in love! So, I guess it was not too much of a surprise for everyone! (The pig was so cute!!!)

Once again I am go glad that I am a part of the SONOPP's group. Last month one of our speakers was the owner of Heidzillas, Heidi, a Cleveland wedding planning and day of coordination company.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I am very blessed to be married to my Valentine!

Last Friday, I received a shipment from Pro Flowers, a dozen long stem roses in a rainbow of colors, and in it was the following card:

Of course I got all teary eyed and had to call Nate at work to thank him over and over and over again.

I assumed they were my Valentine's present, but when I woke up this morning I found another set of flowers on the kitchen table. I was super shocked, I looked at Nate and asked, why did I get another set of flowers. He informed me it had been a while since he sent me flowers so the roses he sent on Friday were just because. AH, I love this man!!

As you will see in the picture there are four chocolate bars. As a rule forever, Nate has never purchased me chocolates for Valentine's Day because I always tell him not to. I do not need the chocolate hanging around begging me to eat it. This year he broke the rule and I could not have been happier. You seen the above are Wonka Chocolate bars, my ultimate favorite candy bar of all time. Just last week Wonka announced that they will no longer be making this bar of chocolate. So, Nate bought all the bars that our CVS store had in stock. He is to adorable and always thinking!

Thanks for always being so thoughtful, I love you bunches and thank God everyday for you!

Why choose custom photography?

Custom photography is a product and experience in which you get to choose the style and final look of your portraits. There are many factors that ultimately make up your final portraits. These may include the photographer’s style, location of your portrait session, clothing, props, lighting, mood, your vision and the final products you desire.

Photographers that offer custom photography may have many different options available to you that fit their style or may have a very distinct style that you may like and choose. They have the ability to make your experience tailored just for you as opposed to the chain store time limits and crowds.

Imagine getting your family dressed and ready for your portrait session. Usually that is the most stressful part of any of my sessions. Then you walk into my studio which is ready to go and we start photographing. With family sessions, we are usually done in 60 minutes, sometimes longer and sometimes less. I have had many clients tell me that was pretty painless and thank me for making it so easy and not stressful. Mainly, this is because we have talked before the session and I know what direction we want to go and have it mentally planned out.

Custom photography requires a level of commitment, investment in time, money, and planning on the part of the client and requires a larger time commitment for the photographer as well. When you make an investment in photography, you want it to last a lifetime.

Parks Pooch Parlor

So, when Julie called to set up an appointment for her five dogs, I laughed! I just knew this would be an insane session!

Julie has been Simone's (our dog) groomer for years, she just remodeled her groom shop and decided to decorate with portraits of her own doggies. I think this was a fabulous idea!

After about 10 minutes into the session Julie and I were both sweaty, from chasing and placing all the dogs for the portraits. It was a little tricky! Oh, but it was fun!!

Finally, my sister called to make an appointment to have Kerigan and Ian's annual portraits taken.
We decided to try a new location, so we headed to downtown Sandusky for some cool urban shots.
It was a little chilly but the kids had neat new zipper vest so we decided they should wear them for the session.
After years of training Kerigan and Ian to smile and pose, I think they finally got it! They both look so grown up, it is amazing!

Liz is beautiful, kind and sweet. Danny is handsome, silly and fun.

The first time I meet Liz and Danny I really liked them, I remember coming home from the consultation and telling Nate, I hope they pick me for their wedding, and they did!

Oh, what a simply beautiful day that just went perfect. Liz and Danny decided to do a first look and finish all formal portraits before the wedding that way they could enjoy each other and their guests after the wedding. They braved 30 degree weather, with a cold north wind that came off the lake with out complaining once. You guys and your bridal party were troopers, thanks!

Their wedding ceremony was held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sandusky, OH. What a heartfelt and beautiful message. The historic church was lovely and the Pastor so very kind and helpful.

The reception was held at Mesenburg Creative Catering, Huron, OH. Always a wonderful venue, with a great staff and yummy food. House of Entertainment provided the entertainment for the evening, they really kept the dance floor hoping, everyone had a fabulous time!

Andrea is beautiful, has fiery red hair, and a fabulous smile. Kevin is dashing, gentle and kind.

Oh, what a gorgeous fall wedding, the weather was perfect, with lots of sunshine. Andrea and Kevin were married at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sandusky, OH. What a pretty church, tons of character and gorgeous wood work. The ceremony, was simply sweet with a great mix of laughter and tears.

Andrea and Kevin headed to their reception in style. Check out the super cool vintage car, I seriously loved this, what an amazing vehicle!

Their reception was at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead, OH. What a beautiful venue, the decorations were amazing! The fall colored center pieces were gorgeous. The dinner was created by Creative Cuisine, and was delicious. The cake was a masterpiece created by, Tonya's Cakes, always beautiful and yummy!

Oh my, what a beautiful couple!

Tracey is gorgeous, quiet and has a heart of gold. Craig is handsome, has amazing eyes, and is so kind.

Tracey and Craig are an amazing couple, who adore their entire family. They had such a fabulous wedding day surrounded by their loved ones. One of my favorite aspects about this family is the way they hug. All day long huge hugs and smiles were shared with so much happiness. I loved it!

The wedding ceremony was at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Attica, OH and the ceremony was performed by Tracey's Great Uncle, Fr. Joe Miller. This was one of the most personal and beautiful ceremonies, I have ever attended. Fr. Joe, had everyone laughing and crying through the service, he was amazing.

We traveled out to The Sorrowful Mother Shrine, Bellevue, OH, for the outdoor portraits.
It had rained most of the morning so things were wet and muddy, but my bride and groom were wonderful. They never complained about the mud (or the cold, since it was only 50 degrees! I had on my winter coat and gloves!)

The evening ended with lots of laughing and dancing, at the Attica Fairgrounds Hall, Attica, OH.
The reception was so fun and happy! Tracey and Craig's families are just amazing people!

Samantha is beautiful, kind hearted and laid back. Dave is good looking, has fabulous hair, and is quiet.

Samantha is very detailed, through out the day there was always something really neat showing up. From personalized fans during the service, to multiply party favors at the reception. Every time I turned around there was something with their names and wedding date on it!

Samantha and David were married at the First Presbyterian Church, Huron, OH. I love that this was also the church that Samantha's parents were married at. The church was beautiful, with tons of natural light. And lots of blues and white through the church (which matched the wedding colors, so it was even more fabulous!).

Samantha and David decided to have a first look, therefore, we were able to get a ton of portraits finished before the wedding and they could just relax and enjoy the day with their guests.

The reception was held at Ceasar's Crystal Palace, Sandusky, OH. They always do a stellar job. There was great food, quick service and kindness through out the staff. I love that Samantha and David invited children to the reception. They made the evening special for the kids by having special goody bags for them, a separate arts and crafts table, and a teddy bear toss. It was so cute, you could just see how much their nieces and nephews loved them and how much they loved them back!

Brian & Sarah

Soul Mates.

This is the first word that came to mind the first time I meet Brian and Sarah.
Just watching them interact, you can tell they complete one another.

Sarah is gorgeous, happy and fun to be around. Brian is handsome, silly and is always smiling.

Sarah was so nervous while she was getting ready. But, as soon as she walked down the aisle and saw Brian her eyes lite up and I could instantly see her relax.

The wedding day was gorgeous, the rain stopped just in time for the wedding and the sun shined the rest of the day. Their wedding ceremony was simply beautiful. A full Catholic mass at St. Thomas the Apostle, Sheffield Lake, with lots of smiles and happiness among the families. For portraits we traveled to a local park, right on the lake (one of Sarah's favorite destinations) and had lots of fun with the bridal party, this was one wild and crazy group!

The reception was held at The Fountain Bleau, in Avon Lake. What a fabulous venue, not only was it beautiful, the service was wonderful and the food fantastic. Everyone had a great time at the reception!

Sarah made each of her bridemaid's this cool tote!

The moment Sarah's Mom and Aunt saw her when she arrived from the salon. Their expressions are priceless!

Sarah's something blue, this beautiful ring belongs to Sarah's grandmother.

The moment Brian saw Sarah he teared up, he had to look down to compose himself.

Brian's parents were married in this same church, this is the same pose they have in a frame at their house.

Jaimee and Josh are a super cute couple who I hung out with a few Saturdays ago. Their engagement session was a perfect 70 degree, sunny day, with a touch of a breeze.
They are so comfortable with each other and were willing to try anything I tossed at them! Oh, I love couples who are willing to play and just enjoy their time in front of the camera.
I love the way Josh can make Jaimee laugh at any given moment. Jaimee has a gorgeous smile and is not afraid to show it, I LOVE IT!

What a fabulous time I had with Kristen and Chris this pasted weekend.

Kristen is super nice, very laid back, and gorgeous! Chris is very kind, handsome and keeps Kristen in check. Kristen is a very spirited individual with lots of personality. ( I loved her spunk!)

Their wedding ceremony could not have been more beautiful, they were married at the Marblehead Lighthouse and then we headed over to the beach for portraits. The weather did become quite intense towards the end of our portrait time, you will notice the way Kristen's dress and hair are blowing everywhere. This wind machine was courtesy of mother nature!!

They finished up the evening at Mon Ami, for a very intimate dinner.

Kristen and Chris, I am so glad I was able to hang out with you guys on your special day. Thanks for taking care of me with the yummy meal from Mon Ami (this was such a large portion, I was able to enjoy it for two meals). Also, thanks for giving me my own cake, I did split it with Nate when I got home, we both loved it.

Our Garden

Five years ago, Nate and I remodeled and landscaped our back yard. One of the projects Nate added was a couple raised garden boxes. Oh, what a wonderful addition to our yard this has been. Every year we get to enjoy yummy, tomatoes, peas, cucumbers, green beans, green peppers, yellow peppers and more!

Today I was able to pick the first two items from the garden, it is going to be a great garden year.

Sorry Nate, I already ate the tomato, I just could not wait!

New Studio Space!

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to hang out with John and Bette's family as they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their family actually threw them a surprise party, Bette thought they were headed to a restaurant for crab legs and had to stop at their daughters house to pick something up. When they pulled in the driveway they were greeted by their family and friends. They were both thrilled and enjoyed mingling with everyone who came to the party!

Kristine & Mark

Oh, what fun we had Saturday with Kristine and Mark. Kristine is beautiful, tiny, and super sweet. Mark is handsome, kind and soft spoken. These two together are an amazing couple! I am pretty sure Kristine blushed after their first kiss as husband and wife, how cute!
These two were layed back and completely enjoyed the day surrounded by family and friends.
They enjoyed each and every moment as it unfolded and never worried about the day. They were just happy to be together and with the ones they love.

Kobe Keith Limberios is an amazing little guy! He was born June 14, 2011, 8lbs 2 oz, 20.5" long.
His mom uses another photo studio for their portraits. But I happened to see her in church right before she went in to have him, and I asked if she would be willing to let me play with him when he was born.
To my surprise she called just a few days before she went into the hospital and scheduled an appointment for three days after he was born. Thank you Nicole, I appreciate it more than you can imagine.

He is so precious, here are some cute family and baby portraits.

My Bicycle

Nate is the greatest husband ever, he surprised me yesterday with a cool basket for my bicycle!

I guess he was listening when I told him trying to balance library books and groceries in a bag while I try to steer my bike was getting to be tricky! I do remember bike riding, as a kid, to be much easier!!

Already tested out my new basket this morning, had to return two library books! This made my life so much easier.

Jen & Jay

Jen and Jay's wedding day finally arrived last Saturday. Oh my goodness, what a fun filled, active day!

When I meet these two last year I knew their wedding day would be a fun one.

Jen is so beautiful and kind, how in the world did Jay get so lucky?!?

Jen and Jay decided to take all their portraits before the ceremony at the Schedel Arboretum, Elmore, OH, and wow, this was an amazing location! The Arboretum was beautiful and the weather was lovely.

Their reception was located at Camden Falls, Tiffin, OH. Camden Falls always puts on a beautiful event.

Jen and Jay all your planning paid off, everything was fabulous!

Nico - Too Cute!

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to hang out with Nico. I loved this little guy. First off he has a really cool name! He is also extremely happy and has the most beautiful eyes!
Seriously, he smiled the whole session, it was amazing!

Lydia turns one!!

My youngest niece is now one!
Alyce (my sister-in-law) needed one portrait of Lydia for the family. I was able to go hang out in Ravenna for the day and did a mini session with Lydia. This girl is a mover and a shaker!! She never stops moving!! Here are a few of my favorites from the session. Her beautiful dress was courtesy of her cousin, Bailey. I do believe Bailey picked a winner.

Second Shooting

Last weekend I had the opportunity to second shoot a wedding with Carol Mahl, Photography by Mahl.

I jumped at the chance to second shoot this wedding with Carol. Carol is a ball to work with and a chance to second shoot a wedding is amazing.

Second shooting gives you the freedom to relax and play with different angles through out the day. I do not have to get the safe shot, I get to play!

Honestly the whole day was amazing, the bride and groom were super nice, the bridal party was huge but were amazing at taking care of all the details for the bride and groom. Everyone looked beautiful (ok, guys you looked handsome).

Stephanie's First Communion

What a privilege is was to be a part of Stephanie's First Communion. This is such an exciting moment for this little lady.

The service was held at St.Christine Parish, Youngstown, OH, and was simply beautiful.
There were over 50 children receiving First Communion on this day. The excitement from the children and parents was amazing!

African Elephant Crossing - Cleveland, OH

As Nate and I were driving to the Cleveland Zoo last night, he turns to me and says, "Merry Christmas"! I just laughed and said THANKS!!
The reason Nate said Merry Christmas is that last Christmas Nate adopted an elephant from the Cleveland Zoo and gave it to me as my Christmas gift. This is honestly one of the coolest gifts ever!!!
I love going to zoos and the elephant exhibits are always my favorite. With the Cleveland Zoo opening the new African Elephant Crossing, Nate knew he had a winner with this gift idea.
Since, I am a Zoo Parent, I had the chance to go and see the new African Elephant Crossing before it opened to the public. Oh, it was amazing, the elephants are so beautiful and the new male elephant, Willy, is huge!!
We had a full two hours to hang out with the elephants and to enjoy all aspects of the new exhibit..

Thanks Nate for a fabulous Christmas gift!!

· You will be responsible for spreading the word to your friends and classmates for fabulous senior pictures!

It is great to be home!

After spending most of March traveling and training, it feels great to be home,and I am ready to have some fun.

I have been training for High School Senior Photography and Weddings. I have met and trained with some of the most amazing photographers ever!!

All of you High School Seniors be ready for a fabulous new program where you can earn free Senior sessions, products, gifts and cash!! This will be announced in May, so be ready for some fun!!

For all my 2011 & 2012 Weddings, be ready to have even more fun. You know your engagement sessions were a blast, but just wait until your wedding day. Be ready for a fabulous time!!!

Lots of learning to do...

The month of March is full of networking and learning opportunities for me.
This pasted Monday, our SONOPP's group met at Jerry Bruno Productions, for an open forum on how Photographers and DJ's/Bands can work seamlessly together to make a wedding even better for our clients.

Jerry Bruno Productions, is an amazing place. If you are looking for a DJ or a 1 piece to a 20 piece Orchestra these are the guys to call, they can arrange any type of music you need for your special event.

This Sunday, I leave for a week long seminar at the Annual Triangle Institute of Professional Photography, in Pittsburgh, PA. I will be learning from one of the best Senior Photographers in Ohio, Larry Peters. It will be an honor to meet him, I cannot wait!

I will arrive home Saturday, and than on Sunday be off again! This time to North Carolina to train with Blair Phillips. This is going to be an amazing two days, jam packed, with lighting, posing, marketing, post production and more for the High School Senior market.

The day I get back to OH, I will stop in Columbus, OH, to see "The Power of Passion" tour, with Sandy Puc and Jerry Ghionis. Two of the most amazing photographers!! Sandy specializes in children and family photography. Jerry specializes in wedding photography. I have had the opportunity to meet Sandy for three other seminars, which were all fantastic. This one will be just as amazing, I am so excited!!

When I finally arrive home, I will be ready to do some shooting, so all you High School Seniors, Families and Brides-to-be, give me a call and we will schedule your session!!

I absolutely love being a part of the SONNOP's group. Not only are there wonderful members, who are willing to answer my millions of questions. But our President, Patrick Rice, owner of Rice Photography, finds the most amazing speakers!
This pasted Monday I had the opportunity to meet Micheal Steinberg, owner of Micheal Steinberg Photography, a very amazing and talented photographer!
Oh, the information he shared was incredible! Now I have lots to play with for my next wedding!

Last night's snow fall, 3/10/2011

One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater...

So today's adventure was me out on the town riding my new bicycle.
My new toy is purple and for some reason I started singing the song "One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater", as I was pedaling through the neighborhood. I definately have two eyes, no horn, I was not flying (going pretty slow actually) and there was no people eating involved. But my bike is purple, so for some reason I though this song fit as my bicycling adventure theme song. I know this seems insane, but I truly enjoyed riding in the glorious sunshine singing my theme song.

A hugh shout out to Nate for my wonderful present!
